RVing... Would you do it Full Time?

One of today's main features on MSNBC is "On the Road Again, and Again, and Again." Which is about RV owners who become "full-timers." They give up their homes to become nomads, selling most of their belongings, or put it in storage, and bounce around from place to place wherever the wind or weather may blow.

I've always been quite intrigued by this lifestyle, as I grew up enjoying camping as a kid. I've never really roughed it, or gone backpacking, but always kind of wondered... what if?

When the movie, Into the Wild, with Emile Hirsch, came out a few years ago, based on the true story of Christopher McCandless, I could relate. My dad expressed to me... that most people could. (If you haven't seen the movie, you can read more about McCandless here.)

Chris, a college graduate who didn't want to join society in the 9-5, burned his money, and ditched his car with dreams of going to Alaska burning in his heart (SuperTramp, he called himself). But there is a big difference between Chris and retirees who have "put in their time" with society and can enjoy this leisurely lifestyle of living in Arizona or Florida in the winter, and the Northern mountains for the summer.

Could you imagine immersing yourself in this lifestyle?

Would you prefer traveling around in an RV ?

Do you like camping by tent? Or would you prefer to stay in a cabin or lodge?

Isn't this a great idea?

It's called "Project Sprout." GTECH (Growth Through Energy & Community Health) and Green Coast Enterprises teamed up to plant Sunflower fields in empty lots in New Orleans that were considered to be "blighted". It would be nice if other counties in other states would adopt this idea. Things would sure be a lot more cheerful!

Sunflowers are actually fairly easy to grow provided they have lots of sun and deep soil. I started a couple seeds in my window this year, then transplanted as they grew. But I decided to keep a few indoors up until they were about 3 feet high, each sprouting a beautiful flower. The window received full sun in the afternoons. Because I live in a condo, I didn't have the ability to plant them in the ground, so they lasted in a container as long as possible. But I can't wait til the day I live on lots of acreage again and can plant row of these magnificent flowers.

For more information on growing your own sunflowers, visit

10 Things That Make ME Terribly Happy

Good day! Because it's Monday, I thought I would do something positive and post my version of the rockstar diaries version of what makes me terribly happy.

1. When the lights in the fitting room are actually flattering.

2. Fried Green Tomatoes.
3. When my very handsome boyfriend yells "Muffin!" loudly in public, letting everyone know his affection... knowing it embarrasses me.

4. When my cat Sage cuddles on my chest to feel my heartbeat.

5. Cupcakes with LOTS of frosting.

6. Seeing a movie on opening weekend when Hollywood has been shamelessly promoting it forever, and they hooked me from the previews.

7. Finding my fresh red tomatoes half eaten on the floor, because Sage couldn't resist her oddly favorite food for a cat, and pretending to be mad when I scold her.

8. Daydreaming about living in Switzerland.

9. Having a lazy day watching HGTV and Food Network.

10. When my boyfriend and I stay in on a Saturday night and pick up La Spada's subs and watch movies.

Oh yum!
By the way, this photo is from Magnolia Bakery Cookbook...
and what a cookbook it is!

Happy Friday!!

Ever wake up not knowing what day it is?

I didn't know if it was Friday or Tuesday when my alarm went off this morning.

"Is today Friday?" I mumbled to my beloved, instead of the usual "good morning."
"Yes," he replied.

"Ok, good... Good morning then."
Yes, it has been one of those weeks where the 9-5 just gets to you BAD. However, I have been so encouraged to wake up and read comments and see everyone's daily posts. It has seriously made me so much happier. Not get all mushy, but it's like friendship therapy. Anyway, on that note...
Here are things I'm excited to do this weekend...

1. Crafting and organizing photography for my Etsy debut.

2. Dragging my boyfriend to see The Ugly Truth, which comes out today with Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler. He's such a good sport, but shh!... I think he secretly wants to see it too.

BUT... I am counting down the days until Julie & Julia comes out. I received the book a couple years ago as a gift. And busted again, I only read half. So I'm scurrying to finish, before the movie is released on August 7th. Wait a minute...gotta add that to the list.
3. Finish Reading Julia & Julia.
My love saw the previews last night. He laughed and exclaimed, "Honey, it's You!" He was referring to Amy Adams in Julie & Julia. Not sure which line he was talking about though. "Ever feel lost?" or "I must make a pear tart." Oh well..

Have a great weekend everyone! If you make it to the movies... let me know what you think. :)

Ok, so I have been missing home like crazy the past couple of weeks in Northern California. Meaning yes... I also miss mom. So in honor of the trip she and I have yet to take to together, today's featured destination is Sonoma, California.

So serene...

Grapes that make Northern's California fabulous wine.
Townhall... isn't it charming?

I'm hoping to go soon and tour the wineries!

Maybe we can stay at the Vintner's Inn by Ferrari Carano.
It looks so elegant but homey at the same time.

The Best is Saved For Last...

When I worked at Disney World in the Magic Kingdom... yes, your heard right... I did work at Disney, serving Dole Whip soft serve at Aloha Isle. One of my favorite items there, was the Pineapple Float. They give you a choice of pineapple of vanilla soft serve on top of Dole pineapple juice.
The is so easy to make at home. Just pick up a can of Dole pineapple juice and your favorite brand of vanilla ice cream.

It is THE BEST summer treat!

The question is... do you prefer it with less ice cream...

or MORE? :)

Cute Cottages & English Gardens

I think I'm missing being outdoors the past couple of days!

I just love these images below from Landscape Design Advisor. They offer great tips if anyone is in the market for a landscape designer.

Also, checkout Alford's English Gardens. Such a great website. They have an educational center, Garden Tours 2009, theme gardens, a monthly newletter, plant of the month, garden of the week, and even garden stories!

Enjoy! Have a great Tuesday everyone!
