Work Fashion

Last week, we had a huge event, I'd been planning for a few months with my boss at the Gold Dust West Casino in Carson City. To match our purple theme, I got a fabulous new ring and accessories.

It was a pretty exciting event, we had stakeholders from insurance companies, pharmaceutical reps, legislative reps, state authorities,
attendees from the Centers for Disease Control & Preventions,
and many other coalitions.
It was fun, but a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders now that it's over!

Have a great weekend!

Succulent Garden

This weekend I made my own succulent and cactus garden to embrace living in my new surroundings in Nevada. Plus, I really needed to find a plant that my cat Sage will not try to eat... maybe now she will learn her lesson. :)

To make your own succulent garden, visit Marth Stewart's website.

Le Boudoir

A peak into my room...

London and Paris memory boards from World Market.
They have so much meaning after staying over a week in both cities last year.
My fluffy pillow... because I really want a Westie, and this is just easier.

Hairbows from Forever 21, Potter Barn clock from my ex,
and matching compacts that my friend Sheila and I both have from the UK.

My latest inheritance from my grandmother.
Vintage suitcases... I'm fascinated thinking of all the places my grandma and grandpa took these.
Maybe all the way from Mexico, or maybe not far at all...
but with my wanderlust heart, they are perfectly cherised in my bedroom now.

A picture frame from my friend Mimi from Paris filled with Anthropologie catalog cut outs.

A postcard from Paris, which reminded me of Coco Chanel,
and the days when my friend Sheila nannied for her family.

My reminder that Love Takes Time Turtle from my sweet Shirley.

Lastly, my framed collage of Chateau de Chenonceau.
A reminder to always follow my dreams.
One of the places I planned for Photography Getaways
and visited last year,
also the destination I was trying to get to on my scariest driving day in France.
A reminder that dreams are not always easy to achieve,
but realizing the pursuit makes it that more special.

Cultural Eats

Even though I spent over a month in France last year, I had never heard of the Basque people who inhabit the southwestern region of France and northeastern region of Spain. It wasn't until I started hanging around Carson City that I learned of their traditions. So, this weekend, I tried two Basque restaurants. A burger for lunch at Villa Basque, though next time I should try the chorizo, as many of their dishes contain the popular ingredient, and they even sell it packaged in house to take home. But dinner at JT's, one of the area's renowned Basque restaurants, was served family-style. Not only was it a lot of fun, there was no shortage of good food. Family-style includes: bread, wine, minestrone soup, salad, then stew, amazing French fries, and your choice of a main dish. I choose the lamb chops, but the garlic shrimp was fantastic too!

The coolest thing though, was the old saloon style bar in front with all the dollar bills tacked to the ceiling.

Bon appetit!

The Ties That Bind

Last weekend was my grandmother's funeral, and though it was a sad occasion, it was also good in so many ways. Being together with family I haven't seen in years was so memorable and something I will always cherish. All the daughters and granddaughters wore a something of my grandmother's to honor her.

My Mom & I.

Me, Vanessa, Michelle & Olivia.

Olivia is reason I was able to attend the Royal Wedding.
Without her help, it would have never been possible.
She's always been more like a best friends,
and no matter how much time goes between our visits,
I love her more everytime.

My cousins: Creighton, Taylor, Joseph, Travis, Olivia, Vanessa, Frank, Michelle, Jonathan & myself.

My cousin Creighton & I.
(The one who survived falling down a ravine in Chico playing disc golf.)

My grandma's favorite mu mu (which I'm going to sew something for all our family members).

Highlights of the weekend:
Sleepovers, bonding with my aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Maple bars, hundreds of chips and salsa,
and pulling out more chairs before the services started
because so many people came to show their respect.
Thanks to everyone.

Thanks for sharing such an intimate post with me.

Oreo Turns 100

You may have heard already... but in case you didn't... it's true!

The question is:
How do you eat your Oreo's?

I eat the top cookie layer first, then the cream and bottom together.
But my favorite way is my grandmother's Oreo Ice Cream cake!
