Day 1

It has been 10 days without Starbucks, and since I lightened up on my caffeine, and was reading about the benefits of the Raw Diet, I figured I would give it a shot. I've never been one to follow a diet, and have never ever EVER been able to fast successfully for a day. But because my attitude toward food has changed ten fold anyways: I used to be a "Live to Eat" kind of girl, now I'm more "Eat to Live" despite all my sugar postings on the blog. In fact, I was never allowed to have sugar really, and can name a traumatizing event when I asked to have my See's Easter chocolate bunny as a kid. Not to mention, I'm sensitive to wheat, gluten, and dairy in large quantities. Don't like to eat too much meat... so that doesn't really leave much to enjoy. But since joining the workforce, and sitting my bottom in a desk for 8 hrs a day, plus coming home to blog, and my own business aside from that... something's gotta give. I've decided to kick the caffeine habit and take back my health.

Let's just say I have NEVER consumed as many things from a plant in one day before today...

* 1 banana
* 4 strawberries
* a handful of blueberries

* 20 almonds (protein)

* Spinach salad containing...
* 1/2 yellow bell pepper
* 3 mushrooms
* 1/2 ugly ripe tomato
* 1 whole cucumber with lemon juice (no salt)
* 2 radishes (a first for me!)

*2 organic dried apricots (unsulfured)
*10 pretzels

Afternoon snack
* 1 banana
* 1 tangerine

All I've had to drink all day is 4 bottles of water, no coffee, tea, or juice!

Before you think I'm crazy... I've had surprisingly so much energy! I did not need any caffeine, especially for a Monday morning. I haven't been hungry all day... yes I could always go for more, or a big vat of lasagna. But it's nice to think that actually eating fruits and veggies can be a great supplement to caffeine.

I'm not sure what is in store for dinner. It may, or may not be raw, but it will be healthy! I'm very excited about this venture.

*Note: I will never last for a week. But just trying to get into the habit of doing this a few days in the work week will do wonders, not to mention all the natural vitamins! Here's hoping I make it home before passing out. ;)

  1. I think that's fabulous! My daughter is vegan and for Christmas she got a juicer, so we have been juicing quite a few fruits and veggies and been eating very well and have cut down dramatically on anything processed. I also have an aversion to dairy and try to eat gluten free as much as possible (I just feel alot better). When I do go to Starbucks(which is rare these days) I always get soy and decaf espresso. I have been working away on my treadmill too! Definitely feel more energetic as of late! xxoo

  2. Come on Girl! You can do it!!!!!! I'm starting a two week detox next Monday.. and that means one week soups only followed by one week raw diet!!! Come on let's do it together! You'll feel amazing afterwards!

  3. Congrats to you for setting such a great goal! Eating a raw diet every other month has REALLY helped me maintain my energy level and keep my active. And you are so right, after an 8 hour day at the office and then blogging at home your energy level hits the ground pretty quickly. All natural smoothies in the morning are also a great source of energy. Have a great rest of your day!:)

  4. Good for you ! Your fruit bowl looks delicious. If you miss your coffee, you might want to try decafe - I switched 30 yrs. ago. You're smart to do this just a few days a week too.

  5. Gosh.. you and I are so much alike.. my stomach feels a bit funny if I've had too much diary as well, and I don't like red meat.. I do like it very thin, Japanese steak... I do like meat, but I don't eat steak... not sure that even makes sense. Butter, and all that.. I only eat on holidays... it's the only way to stay healthy... I'm not good a fasting either... I gave up coffee, but still drink it occasionally, and never have more than a small cup a day..but I can't give up on my green or oolong tea... I need to get back to shedding... but my meal replacements get boring sometimes, and I go for a small rice bowl with something on top... but no more sweets for me till V-Day...

  6. Ooooh, man. Good luck! I've been struggling with eating better since the start of the holidays. I can't seem to kick it. Maybe I should get some sort of detox a try...

  7. Good luck with your ( won't say diet ) new way of eating. Wish I had your determination. I have done way too much cookie making the last week.

  8. Good for you trying to detox & get back to a healthy eating!! I usually eat fruit for breakfast! I really need to take your advice & nix the constant coffee drinking, I imagine I'll have so much energy too! =)
