The Help Fashion

Have you ever wanted a new style? Not just for a day, but for a new lifestyle whether it be permanent or a season. For those of you who watched Felicity, I'm thinking of when Meghan Rotundi (Amanda Foreman) went from goth to a 1960's vintage doll. Not that my transformation would be that dramatic, but after watching The Help, I couldn't help but dream of spending a summer in nothing but tailored dresses.

Then I discovered Amordress on Etsy and can't help but devise a little wish list... especially if one day I own a bakery ~ coffee shop this would definatley be the dress code.

After browsing through their dresses, I found one that looked familiar from my Pool Days post a couple summers ago...

The Carrie Diaries

Well I got my Hollywood fashion fix last night as far as evening dresses go while watching the Golden Globes. Did you? I loved Emily Blunt, Jessica Alba, and Michelle Dockery's dresses.

But tonight is the night for 80s fashion!

Ever since Gossip Girl ended last month, I wondered what my next "guilty pleasure show" would be and that's when I saw the previews for The Carrie Diaries (the prequel to Sex & the City), but I was excited to learn that fashion guru Eric Daman, Costume Designer for Gossip Girl, would be back again for The Carrie Diaries

and tune into the CW 8/7C tonight for the series debut.

Breaking the Craving

I don't know about you, but after the holidays it's hard to break the daily addiction of indulging a sweet or five. I've been pillaging cupboards after dinner looking for the last bits of candy and scouring the break room around 2:00pm everyday in hopes that not everyone is on a diet, or even if they are, have brought in some goodies to spread the calories, like I generally do... but it's starting to look like the goodies are drying up, leaving me to crave some of the holiday treats I made this season.

If you've still got the craving, try

Don't Crowd the Mushrooms

Anytime I make sauteed mushrooms, I hear Amy Adams in the back of my head saying"don't crowd the mushrooms" from Julie & Julia, when Julie recalls Julia Child's tidbit of advice.

Last night, we got into a mushroom debate in our house. I generally prefer my veggies al dente, but the man said the sauce would run all over his plate and cause all sorts of cross-jurisdictional boundaries causing his food to "touch" if I didn't allow it to thicken, and I argued that I didn't want them cooked to look like escargot. So I let him take over the skillet, and I hate to admit he was right. He rocked the mushrooms.

Worcestershire Mushrooms
2 cups of mushrooms
1 tbsp of butter
1/4 tsp Adobo season
1/8 cup Worcestershire Sauce
2 tbsp heavy cream

Heat skillet with butter, add sliced mushrooms. Add Worcestershire Sauce and seasoning after a couple of minutes on medium heat, stir occasionally and let sauce thicken. Add heavy cream and stir another minute. Ready to serve.

Be warned... they have a bite!
Tangy, spicy, and salty goodness.

Aqua & Orange

Aqua & Orange

Doesn't Emma Stone look simply gorgeous?
I've been obsessively wanting to color my hair like hers, though not sure I could pull it off.
Most of these finds are under $50!
Like the orange scarf, it's only $7.50.
Or perhaps the pillow, only $24 on Etsy.
Check out the complete set on Polyvore.

Personal Space

Sometimes boundaries are good.
Sometimes we all need a little me time.

Now if only my obnoxious little-big sis Rosie of nine months, would realize this and realize her place
in our home, that I was here first, that I rule this roost, and that I don't care if she does measure 42 inches in length, just 6.5 inches shy of Stewie the World's Largest Cat in the Guinness Book of World Records also living here in Reno, NV. I don't care if she might a distant relative of this so-called Stewie's Maine Coon lineage.

But Rosie will not pounce on me a hundred times a day anymore.
She will not kick me off the bed while I'm sleeping anymore.
She will learn to respect my personal space...
or vengence will be mine.
